Patient Safety

Patient Safety
We as a Practice have adopted measures to ensure the safety of our patients, these include the following:

    • Being open
    • Whistleblowing policy
    • Clinical guidelines
    • Infection control
    • Audit
    • Discussion of significant events
    • Staff appraisal
    • Staff training
    • Medicine Management Team Pharmacist
    • Drug alerts

Being Open: We encourage our staff to be open and transparent with regards to problems or difficulties within the practice both with each other and with patients

Whistleblowing Policy: All our staff are encouraged to raise issues about patient safety or working conditions with their line manager or a senior member of the Practice staff

Clinical Guidelines: The Partners have access to up to date guidance on all areas relevant to the safe evidence-based care of patients, in particular the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, the Royal Medical Colleges or other bodies relevant to patient care

Infection Control: Both clinical and non clinical staff receive training on infection control. In particular hand washing and handling of specimens

Audit: The Practice undertakes audit in order to monitor performance and identify areas that may require improvement

Significant Events: Any significant events we have had are recorded and discussed in meetings with a view to improving our service to our patients

Staff Appraisals: The Doctors are appraised externally on an annual basis and all our staff are appraised each year to identify development and training needs
Staff Training: All members of staff are required to undergo annual resuscitation and basic life support training. Clinical staff receive annual training in anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) management. The Practice may close on certain afternoons to allow for Practice training and development

Medicine Management Team Pharmacist: Our MMT Pharmacist works with all staff to ensure our prescriptions of medicines are in line with best practice. Important prescribing issues are discussed at regular intervals to ensure our patients get the correct care
Drug Alerts: Members of the Clinical staff and the Practice Manager are registered to receive drug alerts fro the MHRA. These alerts are circulated to relevant staff when received
